UK Aggressive

M&G Smaller Companies

This is a flexible and pragmatic smaller companies fund that aims not to be dogmatic on style.  The fund is managed by Simon Bailey who believes that his investment process is more important than the style.  Bailey also has a belief in fundamental research of his stock selections, combined with an intention to hold onto them for 2-3 years; and he views his fund a ‘smaller’ rather than ‘small’ companies fund, as he hold no micro-cap within the fund.

BlackRock UK Special Situations

Fund manager, Richard Plackett, likes to discover companies that he believes are undervalued.  He does this with thorough fundamental research and company visits of his prospective stocks.  The fund does not benchmark itself to any index, being totally unconstrained, and it can also invest across the cap-scale – although Plackett is a believer in the long term out-performance of the small-cap area of the UK market.

SVM UK Opportunities

The UK Opportunities fund is managed by Neil Veitch and aims to identify stocks that offer the most attractive growth prospects, whilst being valued by the market at a price that looks cheap compared the their intrinsic value.  Veitch is a believer in buy low, sell high and thinks that investors too often get attached to stocks that they should sell.  The fund also looks to exploit the fact that the mid-cap arena has some very under-researched stocks and therefore can provide some excellent buying opportunities.

Lincoln Opportunities Trust

Managed by Goldman Sachs the Lincoln Opportunities Trust seeks to identify stocks that have an attractive price, are operating in defensible markets (i.e. with few competitors), with incentivised management and in a position to benefit from structural change within their marketplace.  They seek to avoid buying stocks simply because they are cheap.  Stock selections are made using rigorous research of the companies.
