This fund is managed by Aled Smith and aims to be a ‘core’ US fund, although it may also hold small weightings in Canadian and Mexican equities.  Smith seeks to identify the best stocks from all sectors, size ranges, and phases of the company life cycle (growth, fading, mature and recovery).  No top-down views are imposed on sector choices and there is no reference to a benchmark in the stock selection process.

Instead of being managed by one person, this fund is managed by Old Mutual’s quantitative strategies team.  The fund seeks to exploit market inefficiencies, highlighted by the teams stock return modeling process.  On top of the portfolio that the ‘quant’ team construct is overlaid factors such as investment risk and cost, to create a balanced stock selection.
