Growth Portfolio factsheet

This portfolio aims to deliver capital growth from a collection of equity and diversified funds with a broad geographic split. It aims to provide exposure to a balanced mix of developed and emerging market equities for long-term investment.

At the core of the portfolio is exposure to UK, global equity and Asia Pacific funds.

The AXA Framlington UK Select Opportunities fund invests across the range of the UK stock market. The fund manager has a pragmatic approach to investing that incorporates stock-specific and macroeconomic considerations.

The Neptune Global Equity fund aims to identify global macroeconomic themes and which stock sectors and companies can best be invested into to realise these thematic opportunities. It typically has a significant exposure to emerging market stocks as well as those of developed markets.

The First State Asia Pacific Leaders fund gives exposure to emerging and developed Asian economies, acknowledging the importance this region now plays in the global economy. Territories chosen include Australasia, China and India, but exclude Japan.

The final element of the portfolio comprises two funds that differ from the traditional equity fund in that they employ varying investment strategies and invest in different asset types to achieve their objective.

The Artemis Strategic Assets fund invests into equities and bonds, but also currency and commodities. It selectively takes short as well as long positions in order to maximise opportunity and control risk.

Meanwhile the Standard Life Global Absolute Return Strategies fund aims to control risk from a diversified portfolio of assets (including equities and bonds) whilst delivering capital growth of cash* plus 5% per annum over a rolling three-year period.

*Cash rate used is three-month LIBOR

Chartwell view, “Getting the right blend of managers and the right geographic allocation is important.  For long term growht it's vital to have exposure to developed and emerging markets, but it's got to be with a fund manager who can demonstrate a proven track record across different market cycles”
